KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Shippensburg University softball team battled with the No. 2 team in the Atlantic Region on Wednesday afternoon from Keystone Field but could not come away with a victory against the No. 25-ranked Golden Bears of Kutztown, dropping 2-1 and 6-1 decisions.

Shippensburg (13-25, 2-10 PSAC East) scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning of the opener, but the Golden Bears earned the victory in walk-off fashion with a one-out double. Junior pitcher Dana Ward had a solid game in the circle, posting a complete game while striking out four batters. She was also one of four Lady Raiders with hits.

Kutztown (33-12, 11-3 PSAC East) built a 3-0 lead against sophomore Chelsea Kendall in the third inning of the second game. The Golden Bears had three infield singles and a sacrifice bunt to start the inning with momentum.

Back-to-back doubles put Shippensburg on the board in the fourth inning. Junior Jill Mullan led off the frame with a double down the left-field line and later came around to score on an RBI-double by senior Lisamarie Ramagli. Kendall finished with a complete-game effort in the nightcap, striking out six batters without walking anyone.

The Lady Raiders will host Millersville at 2:30 p.m. Friday in a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader from Robb Field. To have a shot at the postseason, Shippensburg will need to win its final four games this weekend over the Marauders and Warriors while hoping that East Stroudsburg loses two games versus Kutztown on Friday and also hoping that Millersville loses at least one game to West Chester on Saturday.
