SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University softball team opened the home portion of its 2010 schedule on a gorgeous Wednesday afternoon from Robb Field but struggled on offense and defense in its doubleheader against PSAC Eastern Division opponent Kutztown, dropping both games by scores of 8-2 and 3-0.

Shippensburg (7-19, 0-6 PSAC East) committed five errors between the two games and fell victim to 17 hits by the Golden Bears. Junior Dana Ward was the starter in the opener and pitched four innings before sophomore Chelsea Kendall threw the final three innings. Ward threw a complete game in the nightcap.

The Lady Raiders got seven hits in the opener, including two each by junior Courtney Steele and junior Moira Johnsen. Senior Lisamarie Ramagli hit an RBI-double in the sixth inning of the opener that scored junior Hope Cornell and sophomore Abby Block grounded out in the seventh to drive in Johnsen. Junior Jill Mullan provided the only two hits for Shippensburg in the second game.

The Lady Raiders will hit the road this weekend and compete in two PSAC crossover doubleheaders. Shippensburg will face Slippery Rock at 1 p.m. on Friday before facing Clarion at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
