Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -
The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team scored its most goals in a game versus West Chester in four years on a rainy Monday afternoon from Vonnie Gros Field, but the Lady Raiders could not come away with a victory against the No. 6-ranked Golden Rams, falling 18-8.

Both teams had to weather an early storm, literally – as the game was delayed 30 minutes at the start by lightning. Through the first 10 minutes of play, West Chester had built an early 4-0 lead on its home field.

Shippensburg (2-2, 1-1 PSAC East) got its first goal of the game on a free position strike by junior Karen Schnurr midway through the first half. Just over one minute later, senior Lena Stoneburner scored the first of her two goals to bring SU within two. After a Golden Ram goal, Stoneburner scored once again, this time off a free position, making the score 5-3 with 10:04 to play in the first half.

West Chester (4-0, 2-0 PSAC East) scored five straight goals to close the half with a 10-3 advantage. Despite the deficit, Shippensburg kept fighting and remained in the game with strong goaltending from sophomore Meghan Kearney, who made 11 first-half saves and 19 overall in the contest.

The Lady Raiders scored five goals in the second half. Senior Gayle Kuntzmann, sophomore Lauren Hauck, junior Katie Brewer and junior Rachael Murray each scored unassisted tallies before Brewer assisted on a goal by freshman Lindsey Kennedy in the final two minutes.

After a tough going against No. 4 Limestone on Saturday, Shippensburg fared much better off the draw on Monday, trailing the Golden Rams by just five in draw control margin. Brewer, Kuntzmann, Murray, Schnurr and senior Liz DiNunno each won multiple draw controls in the contest. SU also held a 15-14 advantage in groundballs, including four picked up by sophomore Meghan Borgoyn.

The Lady Raiders will continue PSAC Eastern Division play at 4 p.m. Thursday from Kutztown.
