SALEM, Va. – The Shippensburg University softball team snapped its eight-game losing streak on a beautiful Friday with a pair of regional victories from the Salem Invitational, defeating WVIAC opponents West Virginia Wesleyan and West Liberty, 4-3 and 4-2.
Shippensburg (5-10) opened its five-game weekend with the one-run victory over the Bobcats, a squad that was ranked at No. 24 in last week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll and is still receiving votes toward a national ranking. Junior
Dana Ward threw a complete game in the opener with seven strikeouts, while senior
Kiley Abersold had a double among two hits and senior
Lisamarie Ramagli slugged a two-run home run.
In the team's 4-2 victory over the Hilltoppers, sophomore
Chelsea Kendall pitched the first 1.1 innings before Ward entered in relief and finished with the victory. In 12.2 innings of work on Friday, Ward totaled 14 strikeouts from the circle.
The Lady Raiders will look to extend their winning streak with three more games tomorrow from Salem.
Full box scores of this weekend's action will be available next week.
