SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg women's basketball team had all five of its starters score in double figures on Wednesday night from Heiges Field House and made 14 three-pointers as a team but could not hold on to its lead down the stretch, as the Lady Raiders dropped a heartbreaking 85-80 overtime decision to West Chester.

Shippensburg (14-15, 7-6 PSAC East) fell into a three-way for third place with West Chester and Bloomsburg in the PSAC Eastern Division. The first tiebreaker involves head-to-head competition within the schedule, which puts the Golden Rams in third place (3-1 vs. SU/BU), the Lady Raiders in fourth place (2-2 versus WCU/BU) and the Huskies in fifth place (1-3 vs. WCU/SU). Cheyney, Shippensburg's opponent on Saturday, sits one game back of the trio needing a win and significant help to get in the playoffs.

West Chester (17-9, 7-6 PSAC East) trailed by 10 points with 3:52 left in regulation but chipped away at the Lady Raider lead and eventually tied the score with 21 seconds to play. After a turnover by each team, Shippensburg was able to in-bound the ball from underneath the Golden Ram basket with three seconds to go. Senior forward Lauren Beckley caught the in-bounds pass, drove to the hoop and was sent careening hard to the floor. No whistles sounded, however, sending the game into overtime.

After Shippensburg had sustained most of the momentum in the second half, the edge carried over to West Chester by the extra session. The Golden Rams never trailed in overtime, leading by as many as eight points. Three free throws from Beckley got Shippensburg within four points at the 21-second mark, but the Lady Raiders could not get any closer.

Shippensburg received a host of outstanding efforts from its starting five despite the loss. Beckley scored 27 points, shooting 6-of-11 from three-point range and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line, while grabbing a career-high 20 rebounds. She had achieved her 58th career double-double with two minutes to play in the first half.

Freshman guard Kerry Conroy recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 11 assists. She was 3-of-4 from three-point range and recorded the most assists by a Lady Raider since current assistant coach Jen Grassel (Scaffidi) had 11 against Mansfield on Jan. 18, 2003.

Junior forward Kasey Gardner stepped up her offensive game in the second half by scoring 14 of her 17 points. She finished the game with five rebounds and three steals while making three 3-pointers.

Redshirt freshman forward Caitlin Bamberger had a career-high 13 points and was key from the free-throw line, making 7-of-10 attempts. She also added five rebounds. Senior guard Sheila Wasser added 11 points in a career-high 43 minutes while tying career highs with seven rebounds and five assists.

Shippensburg concludes the regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday from Cheyney.

Notes: Beckley set a school record for the most consecutive free throws made by one player, surpassing Emily Swingler (25)…she has now made 29 in-a-row dating back to the win at Bloomsburg…Beckley is now 14 free throws short of the PSAC all-time record held by East Stroudsburg's Claudine Simard '92...Beckley has now hit 801 career field goals, 260 three-pointers and grabbed 1,136 rebounds in her career…Wednesday night's game is the first time that Shippensburg has had five players post double figures since 2007…it is just the second loss this season when the team has scored 70 or more points.
