WEST CHESTER, Pa. – A goal by Melissa McKeary in the final five minutes of the first half proved to be the difference in a PSAC quarterfinal matchup from South Campus Field, as the Shippensburg University women's soccer team battled No. 4 West Chester to the bitter end on Tuesday but dropped a 1-0 decision.

Shippensburg (10-8-1) gave one of the best teams in the nation everything that it could handle, producing one of its best efforts of the season. Junior Emily Andrew established the tone early with a shot on goal in the game's first minute. She finished the day with one of SU's best scoring chances – firing a shot in the 84th minute that smacked almost dead-center off the crossbar.

The Lady Raiders limited the Golden Rams to just one shot in the first 37 minutes of play. For the match, SU held the powerful WCU attack to just 11 total shots for the game, only six of which were on goal.

Both teams had three shots on goal in the first half. In addition to Andrew's early chance, SU had shots from senior Alison Dowdrick and freshman Rachel Hess. Another fine scoring chance occurred in the final minute of the first half, when junior Brittany Hibshman got clear on a break but her shot sailed mere inches over the goal.

West Chester (17-1-1) mounted its most consistent offensive pressure late in the first half. McKeary's goal came in the 41st minute off a cross from teammate Devon Swaim. The Golden Rams also had three corner kicks in the final 10 minutes of the first half and finished the match with 13.

In goal, senior Megan Delio made two saves in the first half and freshman Shelbie Rackley had three saves in the second half.

Shippensburg competed in the PSAC Tournament for the third time in school history, and the second under head coach Rob Fulton.
