SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. –
Senior Kasey Gardner and freshman Ashley Giedemann had double-doubles on Friday night in the third game of the 2010 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic, but the Shippensburg University women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 68-67 decision to Wheeling Jesuit of the WVIAC.

Gardner led Shippensburg with 20 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor. Giedemann played 22 minutes off the bench and continued her strong start to the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, including four offensive boards.

Sophomore Shawna Wert added 17 points and four assists, shooting 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. Overall, SU shot 84 percent from the charity stripe but just 3-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Friday night's contest was another seesaw battle, as the lead exchanged hands nine times. The visitors scored 22 points off turnovers, but the Lady Raiders took advantage of 13 second-chance points. No team led by more than six points in the second half.

SU was in the lead for most of the second half, but trailed by two points with 3:43 to go. A layup by Giedemann tied the score, and Shawna Wert scored SU's next five points to eventually re-gain the lead. However, a three-point play by WJU's Kourtney Booth tied the score with 1:08 left, and a jumper by Booth with 17 seconds remaining put the Cardinals back on top.

With 11 seconds to go, Gardner was fouled but made just 1-of-2 at the free-throw line. Booth missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with six seconds left, and SU got a good look at a potential game-winning shot but missed a three-pointer at the horn.

The Lady Raiders will host West Liberty tomorrow at 6 p.m in Game 7 of the 2010 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic. The Hilltoppers, picked to win the WVIAC this season, defeated Saint Paul's 110-60 in the first game of the tournament.
