SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University football team will be seeking a strong performance in its final home game of the 2010 regular season from SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium when it hosts Millersville on Senior Day. All fans are encouraged to wear red to the game, as a “Red Out” is planned in addition to celebrations of the team's senior class and SU head coach Rocky Rees.
The game is being broadcast live on Shippensburg University's student radio station, WSYC 88.7 FM and on the internet at wsyc.org (radio pre-game starts at 12:50 p.m.). A live video stream courtesy of Shippensburg University Television (SUTV) can be accessed on the internet at www.ship.edu/goraiders.
The SUTV feed will also be available on Comcast's community-access channel 21 and on campus channel 82. Invica Sports will be televising the game to be shown on tape delay at 5 p.m. by WJAL-TV [68].
The Wing-T establishes a strong tempo in the run game. SU has run the ball at least 25 times in 32 straight games and helped the Red Raiders lead the PSAC last season in time of possession. Last week, SU ran the ball 54 times and only had five of those attempts result in negative yards (excluding two quarterback kneels at the end of the game). Overall, the Red Raiders totaled a season-high 264 rushing yards.
Senior tailback
Kevin Marshall has rushed for 1,537 yards through three-plus years as a Red Raider while averaging over four yards per carry. With 164 more rushing yards, Marshall could move into the school's all-time Top 10 rushing yards leaders.
For his career, Marshall has compiled 4,094 all-purpose yards. He is one of just three players in school history with 4,000 or more all-purpose yards, and is second all-time only to John Kuhn. After 75 all-purpose yards and a touchdown on Saturday, Marshall was named the Shippensburg VFW Offensive Player of the Game.
In Saturday's 50-0 rout of Cheyney, the Red Raider defense recorded their first shutout since Sep. 13, 2008 – the first in a 27-game span. The Wolves have only won once this season - a road victory at Millersville in Week 7. SU forced and recovered four fumbles against Cheyney - the second time this season that the defense has forced at least four turnovers in a game.
Junior tailback
Roshaan McCain scored three rushing touchdowns against Cheyney. He became the first Red Raider to score three rushing touchdowns in a game since McCain was named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week last year after a virtuoso performance against Millersville in which he totaled 188 yards on eight carries. That performance featured the most rushing yards by a Red Raider since John Kuhn in 2004.
Entering last week's game, Shippensburg had played the fourth most difficult schedule in Division II - with that data based on opponent's winning percentage. Three of SU's opponents this season are currently ranked in the AFCA Top 25 poll: Shepherd, Kutztown and Bloomsburg.
Series Vs. Millersville
The Red Raiders lead the overall series 37-23-2. SU has won the last six meetings in the series but lost the previous five before the current streak began in 2001. The regional rivals have faced each other 15 times over the past 22 seasons but the first divisional entry in the series came in 2008.
The two teams first met in 1916 with Shippensburg earning a 15-0 home victory. SU has out-scored Millersville 147-79 over the last five meetings between the two squads and the Red Raiders have scored at least 23 points in each of the past four games.
Under Rocky Rees, Shippensburg has won the last six meetings between the teams dating back to 2001, but his overall record against the Marauders is 7-6.
