LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Sophomore
Matt Gillette was named the PSAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon by league officials. It is Gillette's first career weekly honor from the PSAC.
After finishing as Shippensburg's No. 2 runner in his two previous races, Gillette led the Red Raider effort at the inaugural Division II Challenge hosted by Kutztown University. Gillette placed second overall to lead a Shippensburg contingent that finished two through six and dominated the team standings by totaling 20 points.
He finished the 8K race in 25:37, just two seconds off the pace of frontrunner Patrick Fullerton of Stonehill, to speed past 83 other runners in the eight-team field.
In two weeks, Shippensburg will compete in the PSAC Championships, hosted by California (Pa.).
