SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Michael Celius scored both of his team's goals on Saturday afternoon as the Shippensburg University men's soccer won its school-record eighth consecutive match with a 2-1 defeat over the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.

Shippensburg (11-5) maintained a steady offensive attack and got on the board in the 17th minute with the first of Celius's two goals. The second came in the 55th minute. SU had a 17-5 advantage in shots in the first half and held a 30-16 margin for the match. During its eight-match winning streak, the Raiders have out-scored the opposition 19-5.

Sophomore goalkeeper Clay Sale nearly claimed another shutout but the Mountain Cats scored off a scrum in the 90th minute. He finished the match with three saves.

The PSAC playoff race got especially interesting on Saturday by virtue of Millersville's 1-0 defeat of previously unbeaten Mercyhurst and West Chester's 3-2 upset of Gannon.

SU is tied with Millersville and East Stroudsburg atop the conference standings at 15 points but holds tiebreakers over both by virtue of its victories over each team.

Mercyhurst, Slippery Rock and Gannon each have 12 points, but the Lakers and The Rock each have an extra conference game still to play. Each of the other schools in the race has just one PSAC match remaining.

The Red Raiders return to the pitch on Wednesday at 6 p.m. from Felician College in New Jersey.
