SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – A missile in the 90th minute off the foot of senior defender Katie Klinger was the difference for the Shippensburg University women's soccer team on a sunny Tuesday afternoon from David See Field in a crucial 1-0 conference victory over Clarion.

Shippensburg (10-5-1, 7-5 PSAC) moved into sixth place in the PSAC standings and improved its position for a potential playoff berth with the decisive victory. It marks just the fourth time in school history that the women's soccer program has recorded double-digit victories in a season.

Clarion (4-5-4, 4-3-3 PSAC) had the best initial scoring chance of the match midway through the second half, sending a header off the crossbar. The Golden Eagles fired 14 shots in the match.

But the Lady Raiders maintained a solid offensive pace, particularly in the first half, and got its best opportunities through pressure off corner kicks. SU recorded a 13-0 edge in corners, but did not strike until its final corner kick in the last minute of regulation.

After a failed clearing attempt by Clarion, Klinger crept up from her defensive position and sent a wicked volley that soared perfectly into the top left corner of the net with only 40 seconds left on the clock. It was Klinger's first goal of the season and just the second of her career.

Senior Megan Delio made four saves in the first half and freshman Shelbie Rackley made five saves in the second half for Shippensburg's third consecutive victory by shutout. It was the fifth shutout recorded by Shippensburg this season.

As a result of IUP's 1-0 overtime loss at Slippery Rock and Cal's 2-1 win over Edinboro, the Lady Raiders vaulted the Crimson Hawks in the standings and further distanced themselves from the Fighting Scots and the Golden Eagles. The top eight teams qualify for the postseason tournament.

Shippensburg will travel to eighth-place Edinboro on Saturday for a 1 p.m match with the Fighting Scots.
