SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's soccer team hosts a crucial PSAC contest at 4 p.m. Tuesday from David See Field against the Golden Eagles of Clarion. Both squads are among the group of teams fighting for playoff spots in a jam-packed conference race.
Shippensburg (9-5-1, 6-5 PSAC) enters the match in solid position, currently in seventh place with 18 total points. The Lady Raiders earned a key victory over Millersville on Saturday, rebounding from tough losses against regional favorites West Chester and Bloomsburg.
Clarion (4-5-4, 4-3-3 PSAC) is currently on the outside of the playoff bubble - sitting in ninth place with 15 points. However, a victory would put the Golden Eagles in a tie with Shippensburg for seventh place, and Clarion also boasts a game in hand.
A victory for the Lady Raiders would put SU ahead of IUP into sixth place in the PSAC standings. The top eight teams in the conference will advance to the postseason tournament.
Tuesday's match is the first of two important contests this week for Shippensburg, as the Lady Raiders will travel to Edinboro on Saturday for a 1 p.m. clash with the Fighting Scots. Edinboro is currently in eighth place in the PSAC, two points behind Shippensburg, and also has a game in hand.
