SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Three different Lady Raiders scored goals and freshman
Meghan Mahon had two key assists for the Shippensburg University women's soccer team on Saturday night from David See Field in a 3-0 PSAC victory over regional rival Millersville.
Shippensburg (9-5-1, 6-5 PSAC) scored the only goal of the first half in the 34th minute when Mahon sent a flip throw into the box and onto the foot of freshman
Rachel Hess, who made a quick turn and fired a shot into the net for her third goal of the season.
Early in the second half, Mahon sent a cross onto the foot of senior
Amanda Greenawalt; whose mid-air volley resulted in a 2-0 goal lead for the Lady Raiders. Freshman
Ashley Vellucci scored on a rebound in the 67th minute to conclude the scoring.
Senior
Megan Delio and freshman
Shelbie Rackley combined for Shippensburg's fourth shutout of the season. Delio made two saves in the first half and Rackley made four saves in the second half.
SU avenged last year's results against Millersville, as the Marauders won both meetings in 2009 by a 1-0 margin.
The Lady Raiders climbed to seventh place in the PSAC standings by virtue of their win and some other crucial scores from around the conference. IUP, currently one point ahead of SU in the standings, lost to 10th-place East Stroudsburg. Clarion, just three points behind SU in the standings, tied 15th-place Mansfield.
Shippensburg will host the Golden Eagles at 4 p.m. Tuesday from David See Field.
