SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University Athletics Department and the women's basketball team will be coordinating its annual Pink Zone event on Saturday, February 20 from Heiges Field House in conjunction with the national initiative by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
Shippensburg will host Kutztown in a PSAC Eastern Division matchup at 1 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 3 p.m. All fans wearing pink receive admission for just $1 and any students attending the game are also encouraged to dress in pink.
Tau Kappa, Shippensburg University's women's athletic fraternity, will be selling ribbon cards for $1 donations to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The members of Tau Kappa will also form a human ribbon at halftime and present breast cancer facts to the public while also tossing out T-shirts.
Stephanie Erdice of the Shippensburg University Women's Center will also be present at a breast cancer information table and help orchestrate a breast cancer awareness giveaway for all fans in attendance.
The WBCA Pink Zone® initiative is a global, unified effort for the nation of women's basketball coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The 2009 campaign raised over $1.3 million, reached over 912,000 fans, unified more than 1,600 participating teams and organizations, and saw 56+ schools break attendance records at their event.
