SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Junior forward Kasey Gardner posted a game-high 16 points for the Shippensburg University women's basketball team on Wednesday night from Heiges Field House but the Lady Raiders could not overcome local rival Millersville, dropping a 67-45 decision to the Marauders.

Shippensburg (8-11, 1-2 PSAC East) battled during the first half, playing within six points of Millersville through the first 10 minutes. The Marauders, however, closed the half strong and built a 13-point lead heading into the intermission. Freshman guard Kerry Conroy had six points in the first half while senior forward Lauren Beckley had seven rebounds to keep SU within striking distance.

Millersville (13-3, 3-0 PSAC East), a squad receiving votes in the national coaches poll, led for the duration of the contest and forced 32 turnovers en route to the victory. The MU lead remained at 13 points through the first eight minutes of the second half before a 9-1 Marauder run put things out of reach for Shippensburg.

Gardner shot 6-of-12 from the field and exuded hustle throughout the contest, grabbing four rebounds and forcing four steals. Conroy finished with eight points, while Beckley posted a season-low six points but had 10 rebounds. Redshirt freshman forward Caitlin Bamberger had another solid effort off the bench with three points, six rebounds and one block. She was also the only SU regular in the game to avoid a turnover in the contest.

On the other side, Ashley Moyer led the Marauders with 14 points while Jenna Craig added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday afternoon against Kutztown, who outlasted Mansfield in double overtime on Wednesday night by an 86-73 margin. Game time is set for 1 p.m. and radio coverage will be available on 88.7 FM in Shippensburg and online here.
