Second-Half Struggles Derail Red Raiders In PSAC East Opener, Fall to Mansfield, 67-53

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
The Shippensburg men's basketball team played to a 24-24 tie at halftime on Wednesday night from Heiges Field House but visiting Mansfield shot 57 percent from the field in the second half as the Red Raiders dropped their PSAC Eastern Division opener to the Mountaineers, 67-53.

Shippensburg (7-6) just could not get the shots to fall on Wednesday, shooting just 31 percent from the field and committing 18 turnovers. Nine different Red Raiders finished the game with points, including 12 off the bench from redshirt sophomore forward Will Royal and 10 from senior guard Brian Oleksiak, but SU was 8-of-28 from the floor in the final 20 minutes of play.

Mansfield (9-4) took advantage of having eight fouls whistled against the Red Raiders in the opening seven minutes of the second half and opened the final frame with 23 points in nine minutes to hold a 47-36 advantage with 11:18 to go. SU crept within six points at the 8:11 mark but could not get any closer to the lead.

Redshirt sophomore guard Dane Lauber finished with seven points and hit both of his shots from the field in 15 minutes of action, while redshirt freshman guard Lamar Jackson had seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Redshirt senior forward Daziah Miller had six points and seven rebounds.

Shippensburg returns to the floor at 3 p.m. on Saturday from Koehler Fieldhouse against East Stroudsburg. The No. 24-ranked Warriors dropped an 87-84 decision on Wednesday atNo. 3 Kutztown.
