SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University men's basketball team went toe-to-toe with California (Pa.) in a PSAC crossover on Sunday afternoon from Heiges Field House that featured 20 lead changes and six ties, but a key turnover by the Red Raiders with 75 seconds remaining kickstarted the game's conclusion in which the Vulcans squeaked out a 67-64 victory.

Shippensburg (7-6) trailed by five points late in the second half but re-gained the lead with 1:55 to go on a three-pointer by junior guard Justin Minter. A pair of free throws by Cal's Travis Williams tied the score at 62-62 and set up a critical possession in advance of the final minute.

California (12-3) forced a steal on the ensuing possession by intercepting an attempted pass and Kelsey Williams was the recipient of a breakaway that he capped off with a slam dunk. SU had a chance to tie the score on its last possession, but a three-point attempt with four seconds remaining by sophomore guard Craig Van Scyoc bounced off the rim and the clock soon expired.

Neither team led by more than seven points in the contest while both teams had positive assist-to-turnover ratios. SU held a 26-24 lead at halftime, but neither team held a significant advantage over the other until the final whistle sounded.

Redshirt senior forward Daziah Miller got off to a strong start and was the only SU starter to post double figures, totaling 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Off the bench, redshirt sophomore forward Will Royal once again bolstered the post with his second double-double in five games, totaling a game-high 17 points to complement 12 rebounds.

Redshirt freshman guard Lamar Jackson, who took a nasty spill early on and missed most of the first half, had a strong game in the backcourt with six points and six assists. Minter and junior guard Jaren Gembe added seven points off the bench.

Shippensburg will open its Eastern Division schedule at 8 p.m. on Wednesday from Heiges Field House when the Red Raiders host the Mountaineers of Mansfield. The women's game will precede it.
