ERIE, Pa. - The No. 3-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team hit the road on Labor Day and statistically dominated the homestanding Lakers but had to survive a late rally to earn a 2-1 victory over No. 10 Mercyhurst on Monday afternoon from Tullio Field.
Shippensburg (5-0, 2-0 PSAC West) out-shot the Lakers 15-2 and recorded 24 penalty corner opportunities in the contest. Freshman defender
Ashley Taylor opened the scoring by converting a penalty stroke in the 13th minute that gave the Lady Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Sam Langone scored the decisive tally of the game by ramming in a shot from the side of the net off an attempt made by senior
Kim Tully. It was the first game-winning goal of her career.
The Lady Raiders allowed their first goal in five games with under three minutes to play, but held on for the final margin of victory. Senior
Amanda Houser made the plays when needed and recorded a save to earn her fifth win of the year.
Shippensburg will return to action on Saturday with a neutral-site game from Annapolis, Maryland against new Division II program Limestone, which features Lady Raider alum
Kim Davies '09 as an assistant coach. The game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
