Men's Soccer Opens Divisional Play With First Points Of Season; Tying Rival WCU 1-1

Harriger's goal nearly holds up for SU; Sale makes seven saves

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Shippensburg University men's soccer team opened PSAC Eastern Division play on the road Saturday afternoon from West Chester and earned its first points of the season after playing to a 1-1 draw against the homestanding Golden Rams.

Shippensburg (0-2-1, 0-0-1 PSAC East) opened the scoring in the 17th minute when redshirt junior forward Miles Harriger connected for his first goal of the season off a great feed from redshirt freshman Deon Rehm.

The Red Raiders held the lead until the 90th minute, when a handball was committed in the box that resulted in a Golden Ram penalty kick that was converted by West Chester's Zach Weaver.

Freshman goalkeeper Clay Sale made seven saves in the tie while playing the second half and both overtime periods. Fellow freshman Andrew Foran made the start.

The Red Raiders return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 with a 5 p.m. match against Bloomsburg from David See Field.
