Box Score

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team held a two-goal lead at halftime of its re-match with second-place Bloomsburg on Tuesday afternoon but could not hold on down the stretch, dropping its second one-goal game of the season to the Huskies in a 10-9 loss from Sports Stadium.

Shippensburg (8-7, 4-4 PSAC East) got first-half hat tricks from sophomore Rachael Murray and junior Gayle Kuntzmann that gave the Lady Raiders a 6-4 edge at intermission, but the scoring duo was held to just one goal in the second half.

Murray's goal with 21:37 remaining ended a three-goal streak for the Huskies that brought the score to 7-7. The two teams exchanged goals over the next seven minutes but with 10:43 to go, the Huskies scored twice in a 29-second span to lead 10-8. A late goal from sophomore Karen Schnurr was not enough for the win.

Tuesday's meeting was eerily similar to the season's previous meeting between the two teams — a 16-15 victory for Bloomsburg on March 23 from Robb Sports Complex. In that game, the Lady Raiders also had a two-goal lead at halftime but could not stave off two late goals from the Huskies that proved to be the difference.

Bloomsburg (9-4, 6-2 PSAC East) all but solidified second place in the Eastern Division and a berth in the PSAC Tournament with Tuesday's victory. Samantha King tallied five times for the Huskies, while Allison Ziants made nine saves to earn the victory. The Huskies hold a two-game lead for second place over Shippensburg and defeated the Lady Raiders in both meetings this season.

Kuntzmann led all players with seven groundballs on Tuesday and also had two caused turnovers. Schnurr won four of the team's 11 draw controls, while junior Lauren Marron came off the bench and picked up four groundballs. Freshman Meghan Kearney made eight saves in defeat.

The final home game of the regular season for Shippensburg will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, when the Lady Raiders will recognize their seniors before a PSAC Eastern Division clash with East Stroudsburg.

The Warriors and Lady Raiders are tied for third place with two divisional games remaining, but now both teams are two games behind Bloomsburg. Only the top two teams from each division qualify for the PSAC Tournament.
