SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University lacrosse team received a stellar performance from junior midfielder
Gayle Kuntzmann on Wednesday afternoon from Robb Sports Complex and tied its season high in goals to earn a crucial 16-13 victory over PSAC Eastern Division rival Millersville.
Shippensburg (6-5, 3-2 PSAC East) held a two-goal lead at halftime but took control of the game in the second half, scoring four goals on a power play to take a seven-goal advantage with 20 minutes to play. The Marauders scored five times in the final 11 minutes of the game but the Lady Raiders held on for the three-goal victory.
Kuntzmann was simply all over the field in the contest, scoring a game-high five goals and recording two assists while wreaking havoc on the defensive end with three groundballs and two caused turnovers. She is the only Lady Raider to record one point in every game this season.
Sophomore
Rachael Murray recorded her fifth hat trick of the season on Wednesday, while sophomore
Karen Schnurr had two goals, three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Junior
Liz DiNunno also scored twice and picked up two groundballs.
Senior
Kelsey Browning was a crucial weapon off the draw, picking up five draw controls while senior
Hannah Taylor picked up two draw controls and had a goal. Junior
Sandy Sigel scored twice while senior
Hannah Sperber also picked up a goal for Shippensburg.
Millersville (4-4, 1-4 PSAC East) received a stellar performance from Liz Weekley, the reigning PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week. Weekley scored four goals, recorded five assists, recorded three draw contols and picked up two groundballs. Courtney Haggerty made 13 saves for the Marauders in the loss.
Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday with a PSAC Eastern Division matchup at West Chester. The opening draw begins at 1 p.m.
