SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University baseball team mustered just three runs in a doubleheader against Seton Hill on Tuesday afternoon from Fairchild Field, as the Raiders dropped a pair of games to the visiting Griffins by scores of 3-2 and 4-1.

Shippensburg (14-21) did receive quality offensive performances from senior Kasey Kuhns and junior Rick Shumway. Each batter recorded three hits on the afternoon, as Kuhns went 2-for-3 in the opener while Shumway went 2-for-4 in Game 2. Two of the three runs on the day scored in at-bats by Kuhns.

Seton Hill (16-8), ranked No. 9 in the most recent NCBWA regional poll, received strong starts from Andrew DiNardo and Dan Astfalk. DiNardo allowed one earned run and four hits for the victory in Game 1 while Astfalk scattered one run and three hits over 5.2 innings for the victory in the second game.

Senior Jason Kelly started the opener for Shippensburg and struggled in the first inning, allowing two runs, but overcame the early jitters to record a quality start in which he allowed three runs in five innings while striking out three batters. Junior Phil Harnick did not give up a hit over the final two innings and struck out two.

Freshman Jimmy Miller got the start in the second game and pitched into the sixth inning, allowing four runs on four hits. His only blemish through the first five innings was a two-run homer that he allowed in the fourth inning. Freshman Ted Williams finished the sixth and worked two scoreless innings of relief.

Trailing 3-0 in the opening game, the Raiders rallied for a run in the bottom of the fifth inning but left the bases loaded. Kuhns hit a single in the sixth inning that was misplayed by the right fielder and scored the second run but he was stranded at third base. The tying run was within 90 feet in the bottom of the seventh but a fielder's choice ended the game.

Shippensburg is scheduled to return to action on Friday with a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader from East Stroudsburg. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
