Lady Raider Lacrosse Battles Down the Stretch To Win Tight Contest With Kutztown, 11-9

Murray nets second straight hat trick; teams combine for 83 fouls

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
The Shippensburg women's lacrosse team raced out to a six-goal lead early in the second half on a sunny Tuesday afternoon from Robb Sports Complex against PSAC Eastern Division rival Kutztown and held on down the stretch to earn an 11-9 victory over the Golden Bears.

Shippensburg (4-2, 1-1 PSAC East) led 4-2 at halftime but raced out to score five goals in the opening seven minutes of the second half to take a 9-3 lead with 23:33 to play. Freshman goalkeeper Meghan Kearney was replaced over the final 20 minutes and the Golden Bears rallied against junior Brooke Miller, scoring five unanswered goals to trail by just one with 6:33 left.

Junior Liz DiNunno took advantage of a free position in the final six minutes to cement the victory with a goal that helped the Lady Raiders more comfortably kill the clock down the stretch. DiNunno finished with a goal and two assists while recording one groundball and one caused turnover.

Sophomore Rachael Murray once again had a stellar game offensively, recording her second consecutive hat trick while recording two draw controls. Senior Hannah Taylor and sophomore Karen Schnurr each scored twice and also recorded one draw control.

Defensively, senior Beth Long fared well by reeling in five draw controls to go along with two caused turnovers and two groundballs. Junior Gayle Kuntzmann scored a goal to go along with two draw controls, two groundballs and a caused turnover while junior Sarah Petrucci won two draw controls for Shippensburg as well.

The Lady Raiders will continue their three-game homestand on Saturday with a key PSAC crossover contest against No. 6 Mercyhurst. The opening draw is set for 1 p.m. from Robb Sports Complex.
