SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Red-shirt sophomore Chris Barrick won his 17th match this season and third by technical fall on Tuesday evening inside Heiges Field House, but the Raider wrestlers dropped a 19-16 decision to Waynesburg.

Barrick opened his match against Jack Benczo with a takedown in 18 seconds and recorded the technical fall in 6:02 by a 21-3 score, improving his overall record to 17-3 and his dual meet record to 8-2. He recorded five takedowns and two near falls in the match.

Shippensburg (6-5-1) got behind by 12 points after the first three matches before red-shirt junior Nate Nauroth emerged with a 6-4 decision in a physical clash against Jesse Byerly at 149.

Red-shirt sophomore David Sunderland took an early lead against Jared Roberts at 157 but was ridden for over four minutes at the end of regulation. A stalling point was awarded to Roberts with seven seconds remaining that sent the dual into overtime, where Sunderland recorded a takedown in 42 seconds for the sudden victory.

Battling the flu, red-shirt junior Jon Hade gamely dispatched of Charles Thomas at 184 by a 9-3 margin. Hade earned three takedowns in the match and only allowed points via escapes.

Sophomore Brandon Miller, battling a nagging injury, recorded three takedowns in the first period en route to an 8-4 decision over Rich Janicki at heavyweight. Miller was making several attempts at a pin to force a tie score but could not come up with the victory by fall.

At 133, freshman Justin Morris wrestled gamely against Nick Garber, a competitor ranked No. 3 in Division III with a 19-1 record and 16 pins. Morris was aggressive in his match and became just the fifth competitor to not lose by fall against Garber this season.

Shippensburg will return to action this weekend against perennially strong regional opponents West Liberty State and Carson Newman. The tri-meet will be hosted by West Liberty State, and the Raiders will wrestle the Hilltoppers at 1 p.m. before grappling with the Eagles at 3 p.m.
