WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Junior forward
Lauren Beckley recorded her 10th double-double in divisional play and 17th double-double this season with 22 points and 13 rebounds but the Shippensburg women's basketball team could not overcome the homestanding Golden Rams, falling 69-53 on Wednesday night from Hollinger Field House.
Shippensburg (11-15, 5-8 PSAC East) was within one possession of the Golden Rams midway through the second half, trailing just 47-44 with 10:11 to play in regulation, but the Lady Raiders could not complete a rally and tie the contest.
West Chester (18-8, 10-3 PSAC East), who remained tied with Millersville atop the conference, closed the game on a 22-9 run for the victory. The Golden Rams were led from the field by Megan Stewart's 15 points, while Dana Weems and Janelle Garber each had 13 points.
The Lady Raiders shot 41 percent from the field, including 53 percent in the second half, as three players totaled double figures in points. Senior
Elise Mercer had 11 points and sophomore
Kasey Gardner had 10 points.
Shippensburg returns to action for the regular season finale this weekend against Cheyney. Game time from Heiges Field House is set for 1 p.m.
