KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Junior forward
Lauren Beckley recorded her 10th double-double in PSAC Eastern Division play with 26 points and 13 rebounds while moving into fifth place on the school's all-time scoring list, but the women's basketball squad could not complete a late comeback in a 74-68 loss to Kutztown on Saturday afternoon from Keystone Hall.
Shippensburg (11-14, 5-7 PSAC East) trailed 37-32 at the end of the first half and had cut a double-digit deficit in the second half ot just three points in the final three minutes. Senior guard
Elise Mercer continued her strong scoring with 16 points, while Beckley was 11-of-23 from the field.
Beckley surpassed Janette Pieczynski on the all-time scoring list and has now compiled 1,699 career points and 44 career double-doubles while posting double figures in 77 of her 81 career games at Shippensburg.
Sophomore
Kasey Gardner had 14 points, six rebounds and five assists in the contest while the team connected on 13-of-16 free-throw attempts. Mercer also had six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Lady Raiders will return to action on Wednesday night with their final road game of the regular season from West Chester. Tip-off from Hollinger Field House is set for 6 p.m.
