SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg women's basketball team hit an offensive rut in its decisive Wednesday night contest from Heiges Field House, shooting just 20 percent from the field in the second half as Millersville moved past the Lady Raiders in the divisional standings following a 69-44 loss to the Marauders.
Shippensburg (11-11, 5-4 PSAC East) entered the contest tied with the Marauders in the divisional standings but now sit one game out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division. After Cheyney and Kutztown lost on Wednesday night, Millersville moved into a three-way tie for second place with the victory.
Junior forward
Lauren Beckley finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds for Shippensburg, recording her 13th double-double of the season and the 41st of her career. She is tied with IUP senior Jahzinga Tracey as the active PSAC leader in career double-doubles.
Sophomore
Kasey Gardner also had seven points and two assists, but no other Lady Raider contributed more than four points. Beckley was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, but the remainder of the team was just 5-of-12 from the charity stripe in the contest.
Millersville (17-5, 6-3 PSAC East) was terribly efficient from the field, shooting 47 percent while recording 18 assists to just 14 turnovers. The Marauders scored 23 points off 26 turnovers and also got 30 points from their bench players.
Marauder senior Jenna Philo had 13 points, six assists and four steals while Emily Balogh contributed 11 points off the bench. Ten different players scored on Wednesday evening for Millersville.
Shippensburg will return to action on Saturday afternoon in a PSAC Eastern Division road contest from East Stroudsburg. Tip-off from Koehler Fieldhouse is set for 1 p.m.
