SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Redshirt senior forward
Daziah Miller led Shippensburg in scoring for the second time in three games, totaling 17 points to complement seven rebounds as the Red Raider basketball team took an early first-half lead and ultimately cruised to a 71-58 victory over PSAC West foe Lock Haven.
Shippensburg (5-1) raced out to an 18-8 lead over the first 10 minutes of play and led by as many as 17 points in the first half. The Red Raiders committed just three first-half turnovers while scoring 12 points off 12 Lock Haven turnovers. SU held a 39-22 lead at the intermission.
Miller, who also finished with three steals, one assist and one block, was one of three Red Raiders in double figures. Redshirt freshman point guard
Lamar Jackson had another solid game with 11 points, seven assists and a steal while redshirt senior
Tariek Belcher delivered 12 points, three rebounds and two blocks off the bench.
Senior forward
Brian Oleksiak led the team with eight rebounds while also compiling seven points, three assists, two steals and a block in a team-high 28 minutes. Sophomore guard
Craig Van Scyoc added eight points and tied Oleksiak with eight rebounds.
The versatility and depth of the team was on display again Wednesday night, as all 10 players that took the floor played at least 10 minutes and scored at least two points. It was the third time this season that Shippensburg has achieved this feat, and Wednesday's game also marked the sixth consecutive game to start the season in which at least nine players have scored points.
Overall, the team committed just 11 turnovers, grabbed 40 rebounds and scored 40 points in the paint. Shippensburg has now held five of its six opponents under 60 points this season and shot at least 43 percent from the field in every game except for the season opener.
The Red Raiders return to action next Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Shepherd from Heiges Field House.
