CLARION, Pa. – Three Lady Raiders earned individual event victories on Saturday in a PSAC dual meet at Clarion to lead the Shippensburg University women's swim team with a strong performance early in the season.

The Golden Eagles won the dual meet by a 176-118 score, but the margin between the two teams was a lot closer considering 35 of those points were associated with Clarion's diving, an activity in which Shippensburg does not compete.

Ironically, the women and the men each won the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle amidst full fields of competition. Junior Amy Fisher finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle event with a time of 10:50.79, distancing freshman teammate Kara Keenan (10:56.11) in second place by more than five seconds. Keenan also finished second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:57.36.

Sophomore Kristen McCandless dazzled in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.48, distancing herself from the rest of the field by more than seven seconds. Additionally, sophomore Rachael Ballard earned first-place points in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:56.39 and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:35.72.

Senior Whitney Garner recorded a pair of second-place finishes, completing the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.19 and the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 54.55. Sophomore Nicole Capozzi finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.56) while freshman Julia Brownrigg finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.87).

Also, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Garner, Anna Kinard, Jessica Stusnick, and Capozzi was credited with the winning time in 1:41.64. Finishing three seconds behind was the 'B' team of Kate Johnson, Alyssa Boeggeman, Sarah Bratman, and Alayna Ryan.

The Lady Raiders will not be in formal competition this week but will be practicing for one of its most important meets before the PSAC Championships next year. Shippensburg will next be in action on Friday, November 20 through Sunday, November 22 at the Patriot Invitational hosted by George Mason University.
