Deon Rehm scored his first career goal off an assist from freshman
Joe Nixon and the Red Raider soccer team nearly earned its first victory of the season on Saturday night from David See Field but had to settle for a 1-1 tie against West Virginia Wesleyan.
Shippensburg (0-6-4) took the lead on Rehm's goal in the 17th minute, but the Bobcats tied the score with 3:03 remaining in regulation. Freshman goalkeeper
Clay Sale made nine saves for Shippensburg in the contest, including three in the overtime periods.
The contest got chippy beginning in the final 20 minutes of regulation, and the two teams combined for a total of four yellow cards and 30 fouls in the contest.
Shippensburg returns to action at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday from David See Field with a PSAC Eastern Division contest against West Chester; the team's first divisional matchup in 17 days.
Before the game, the soccer program will be holding the "Red Card Cancer" promotion in which donations will be collected toward the American Cancer Society. All fans are encouraged to wear red and those doing so will receive a free giveaway.
