Women's Swimming Defeats Second Straight D-I Opponent With 114-86 Victory Over Canisius

Six different Lady Raiders earned individual victories

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
Freshman Julia Brownrigg won a pair of events for the Lady Raiders on Thursday night from Donald N. Miller Pool as the Shippensburg University women's swimming team continued its success against Division I opponents by defeating Canisius College, 114-86.

Shippensburg (2-2) had six of its athletes earn individual victories in a total of seven events, as the depth of the Lady Raider squad was in fill display on Thursday.

Brownrigg began her day with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle by posting a time of 1:58.83 that edged sophomore teammate Kristen McCandless by more than two seconds. She later posted a stupendous time of 59.80 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke to win by nearly three full seconds.

Sophomore Anna Weems aced the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:19.65 to earn a nine-second victory. Senior Whitney Garner swam the 50-yard freestyle in 25.19 seconds while freshman Kara Keenan posted a convincing victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.89. Junior Amy Fisher  also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.26 and sophomore Nicole Capozzi narrowly won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.08 seconds.

The Lady Raiders return to action on Saturday, November 7 with an 11 a.m. meet at Clarion.
