Women's Basketball Completes Final PSAC Crossover With Loss to No. 8 Cal (Pa.), 75-49

Gardner nets 18 points; SU commits 29 turnovers in loss

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Shippensburg women's basketball team completed its mandated Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover schedule with a loss at No. 8 California (Pa.) University on Sunday afternoon from Hamer Hall, 75-49. Sophomore forward Kasey Gardner led the Lady Raiders with 18 points.

Shippensburg (6-7) kept pace with the Vulcans in the opening minutes, establishing some solid ball movement and taking an 8-6 lead at the 15:32 mark. The home team responded by forcing four consecutive Lady Raider turnovers to take a five-point lead and continued to apply pressure with an active full-court press.

Calfornia (11-2) closed the half on a 37-10 run to take control of the contest and lead by 21 points at halftime. Senior Brooque Williams posted her fifth-straight double-double and 10th of the season and led the Vulcans with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Raiders, despite their large deficit, maintained a competitive nature in the final 10 minutes of the second half. Trailing by as many as 37 points with 12:42 to go, Shippensburg finished the came on a 26-15 run that brought the score to its final deficit.

Junior forward Lauren Beckley delivered 12 points and five rebounds, while senior guard Elise Mercer added 10 points. The Lady Raiders converted 14-of-17 from the free-throw line for a conversion rate of 82 percent.

Shippensburg begins it conference schedule on Wednesday, when the team travels to Mansfield for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff with the Mountaineers.
