Week 2 PSAC Report

2008 Media Guide

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
Shippensburg University football will celebrate Parents and Family Day from Seth Grove Stadium on Saturday when it hosts PSAC Western Division powerhouse Edinboro. Kickoff from Seth Grove Stadium is set for 12:30 p.m. Fans are also encouraged to arrive early as tailgating festivities will be taking place behind the stadium.

The game is being broadcast live on Shippensburg University student radio station, WSYC 88.7 FM and on the Internet through the station's Web site here. Communication studies graduate student Andy Malnoske will handle the play-by-play while senior communications/journalism major Dan DiVeglio will be the color commentator.

The Shippensburg University Television (SUTV) crew will televise the game live on campus channel 75 and Comcast Cable 21 in Cumberland and Franklin Counties. Their feed will also be available via Web stream here. Communications/journalism students Matt Groseclose and Dan Loeper will handle the play-by-play.

Saturday's game is also being broadcast on the SportsFEVER television network, which is available locally on WHP-TV, CBS 21. STN begins its second year of broadcasting PSAC football games on a live, weekly basis in 2008 after televising 11 games last season. The network estimates that it will reach 6,733,000 homes across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Washington D.C. A complete listing of SportsFEVER affiliates is available here.

Shippensburg students attending the game are encouraged to gather together in the student section in front of the banner near the band. The "Red Sea" student section, led by Shippensburg students Jenn Szarzynski, Abbie Wahl and Ashley Martin, will be tailgating behind the stadium before the game. The group will be leading the charge from the student section during the game.

WEATHER ALERT

University officials are monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Hanna, which is expected to wreak havoc on the Cumberland Valley beginning Friday evening and continuing into Saturday. The National Weather Service is currently forecasting a 70 percent chance of rain for the weekend, with up to an inch possible in many areas. Regardless, Saturday's game with Edinboro will be played as scheduled and begin on time at 12:30 p.m. The only reason for a delay would be in the event of lightning being present in the area.

ABOUT THE GAME

The contest is a direct re-match of last year's game between the two teams, a close battle that was cemented in the final two minutes when Edinboro's Dan Skelton intercepted a pass and returned it 77 yards for a touchdown in a 33-18 victory for the Fighting Scots.

The overall series between the two teams is tied at 23-23-1, with the Fighting Scots having won the last three meetings. Shippensburg last defeated Edinboro in the 2004 season, the year in which the Red Raiders won the PSAC Western Division.

Shippensburg does hold a distinct edge in home games, however, as the Red Raiders are 15-7 against the Fighting Scots in such contests (including an 11-6 mark at Seth Grove Stadium.). Last year at home, the Red Raiders opened their PSAC Western Division schedule with a 33-18  loss at home to the Fighting Scots.

The two teams first met in 1957 with Shippensburg earning a 20-14 victory at Sox Harrison Stadium. Under Coach Rocky Rees, the Red Raiders are 8-9 against the Fighting Scots. Edinboro has scored 87 points in its last two games against Shippensburg.

UNIVERSITY PICNICKING AND TAILGATING POLICY

Shippensburg University recognizes that athletic events are an important component of the University experience. Game day activities also enhance social interaction and build community.  Thus the following guidelines are designed to clarify individual responsibilities so that everyone may enjoy being on campus.
