SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg men's soccer team raced out to an early 1-0 lead on Saturday afternoon at David See Field against the No. 22-ranked Lakers of Mercyhurst but could not stave off a late offensive blitz, dropping a 2-1 overtime decision. Red-shirt senior goalkeeper Brad Patke made 10 saves for the Red Raiders.

Shippensburg (1-6-2) received the second goal of the season from sophomore Dave Rostad in the 25th minute off an assist from senior Brad Anderson. Following a long clear, Anderson took a through ball and weaved between a couple of defenders before finding Rostad, who snuck around his man and fired a left-footed shot into the net.

Mercyhurst (6-1-1) tied the game with less than four minutes to play on a goal from Billy Colton and won the game in overtime with a tally from Nicholas Thompson off a corner kick.

After a seemingly nonchalant first half, the Lakers took over in the second half, out-shooting Shippensburg by a 19-1 margin over the final 52 minutes of the game and finishing with a 24-6 advantage overall.

Shippensburg returns to action on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. from David See Field with a PSAC Eastern Division contest with West Chester.
