LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - After leading by just one goal at halftime, Lock Haven outscored Shippensburg 14-0 in the second half, as the fifth-ranked Lady Eagles handed the Lady Raiders their seventh loss to a top-10 ranked team this season, 20-5 at Charlotte Smith Field on Monday.
Sophomore
Stephanie Sleboda led Shippensburg (4-11, 4-8 PSAC) with three goals, one shy of her career-high. It marked the third time this season and second in as many games that she has scored three or more goals.
In a 20-2 victory over Slippery Rock at home on April 16, Sleboda totaled a career-high five points on three goals and two assists. Earlier this season, she scored four goals in a 19-1 win at Slippery Rock on March 25.
Lock Haven (12-3, 10-2 PSAC) held a slim 6-5 lead at halftime and it looked as if the Lady Raiders were going to pull the upset, similar to the two teams' first meeting on April 2. In that game, the game was tied 4-4 at halftime and then 7-7 with just 1:02 remaining after Shippensburg sophomore
Gayle Kuntzmann tied it on a free position.
However, the Lady Eagles, ranked seventh in Division II at the time, escaped Robb Sports Complex with a one-goal lead after Jessica Blickenstaff scored the game-winning goal with just 33 seconds remaining.
On Monday, Blickenstaff, the PSAC's second-leading goal scorer, added five more to raise her season total to 62 and her three-year career total to 197, just two shy of breaking the all-time Lock Haven record set by Diana Strizki who totaled 198 from 2002-05.
Blickenstaff also added seven assists to finish with a game-high 12 points. She had a hand in eight of the Lady Eagles' 14 second half goals.
Eight different players scored at least one point for Lock Haven, including eight in the second half, and 10 had at least one point. Amber Hoch scored a team-high six goals for the Lady Eagles, three in each half, while totaling three goals and one assist in their six-goal first half.
Senior
Katie Irwin scored the game's first goal to give Shippensburg a 1-0 lead before Lock Haven scored the next four.
However, the Lady Raiders would pull within one following back-to-back goals by Sleboda, the last coming with 12:27 left in the first half. Blickenstaff then added her second goal of the half with 10:40 remaining before Sleboda scored less than two minutes later on a free position to send Shippensburg into the half down just one.
Eight of Lock Haven's 14 second half goals came in the first 15 minutes of the second half, four of which were assisted by Blickenstaff who also scored the team's 13th goal with 16:27 to play.
After out-shooting the Lady Eagles 15-14 in the first half, Shippensburg was out-shot 20-4 in the second in addition to being on the short end of a 13-2 margin in draw controls.
Sophomore
Brooke Miller made 10 saves for the Lady Raiders who also got two assists from sophomore
Liz DiNunno. Irwin and sophomore
Sandy Sigel had one goal each.
