SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.
- Jessica Blickenstaff scored the game-winning goal with just 33 seconds remaining to help the No. 7-ranked Lock Haven women's lacrosse team avoid an upset at Shippensburg Wednesday afternoon as the Lady Eagles edged out an 8-7 victory at Robb Sports Complex.

A Lady Raider win would have snapped a six-game losing streak against Lock Haven (6-2, 4-1 PSAC) that dates back to 2005. The last victory for Shippensburg against the Lady Eagles came back on March 18, 2004 at home, 11-10.

Blickenstaff's game-winner came on her second goal of the game and her PSAC-leading 34th of the season.

The goal was a heartbreaker for the Lady Raiders (2-5, 2-3 PSAC) who held a 5-4 lead late into the second half while holding the conference's second-ranked scoring offense with out a goal for a span of 26:13.

After Amber Hoch scored her 10th goal of the season to give Lock Haven a 4-3 lead with 7:03 remaining in the first half, the Lady Eagles would not score again until Blickenstaff tied the game at 5-5 with 10:50 left in the second.

Blickenstaff then assisted Rachael Williams less than three minutes later to put Lock Haven back in front 6-5.

Shippensburg would score two of the game's next three tallies, including the tying goal with just 1:02 on a free position shot by sophomore Gayle Kuntzmann to tie the game for the seventh time, keeping alive the Lady Raiders' bid for an upset.

The goal was just the second of the season for Kuntzmann who leads the defense in caused turnovers and is second in ground balls. The shot was just her seventh of the season and first free position attempt.

Neither team led by more than one goal throughout the entire contest and after the two combined for just nine goals in the first 49 minutes, they totaled six in the final 11 where the Lady Eagles outscored Shippensburg, 4-2.

A big key in Wednesday's game were fouls where the Lady Raiders were whistled for 35, compared to just 19 for Lock Haven. Shippensburg was also assessed for two yellow cards, including one on junior Beth Long who is one of the team's top defenders as she leads the team in ground balls with 29. She is also second in caused turnovers with eight.

In addition, the Lady Raiders committed 29 turnovers, three of which came in the final five minutes.

Titus and Blickenstaff combined for five of Lock Haven's eight goals, three of which came from Titus. The duo also totaled eight points, four each.

Senior Katie Irwin led Shippensburg with one goal and one assist while sophomore Brooke Miller made 10 saves, the second game in which she has totaled 10 or more. In a 12-7 loss at No. 10 Belmont Abbey on March 13, she stopped a career-high 20 shots.

Four of the Lady Raiders' five losses this season have come against top-10 competition in No. 9 Queens (N.C.), No. 10 Belmont Abbey, No. 4 West Chester and No. 7 Lock Haven.

Shippensburg will look to snap its two-game losing streak on Saturday when it hosts East Stroudsburg at Robb Sports Complex beginning at 1:00 p.m.
