SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Five players totaled five points, led by senior
Katie Irwin as the Shippensburg University women's lacrosse team won its second game out of the last three, scoring 13 first half goals in a 20-2 victory over Slippery Rock Wednesday afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.
Irwin scored a career-high five goals and tied a career-high with five points to lead the Lady Raiders (4-9, 4-6 PSAC) who won both games against The Rock this season, outscoring them 39-3.
Sophomore
Liz DiNunno scored three goals and two assists and over her last four games, has totaled 15 points on eight goals and seven assists. On Saturday, she scored a career-high seven points in a 15-9 victory at Indiana (Pa.).
Meanwhile, sophomore
Sandy Sigel scored a career-high three goals and tied a career-high in points with five. Earlier this season, she also scored five points, totaling two goals and three assists in a 19-1 victory at Slippery Rock on March 25.
Freshman
Stephanie Sleboda set a career-high in points with five while picking up her first two career assists to go along with three goals, one short of her career-high of four set at Slippery Rock.
In two games against The Rock (0-13, 0-11 PSAC), Sigel and Sleboda have combined for 19 points on 12 goals and seven assists.
The fifth Lady Raider to score five points on Wednesday was senior
Brita Paul who tied her career-high in points with one goal and a career-high four assists. She also had one goal and four assists in Shippensburg's season opening 12-10 loss at then-No. 9 Queens (N.C.).
The Lady Raiders took a 13-1 halftime lead after out-shooting Slippery Rock 23-4 in the first half. Irwin and Sleboda combined for six of the team's 13 goals with three apiece.
Shippensburg scored the first eight goals of the game and after The Rock netted their first at 10:54, Irwin answered just 12 seconds later after which, Ashley Winkelspecht was replaced in goal by Sara Williams after allowing nine goals in the game's first 19:18.
In the second half, Lady Raider junior
Brittany Franzen scored her first goal of the season off Sleboda's first career assist with 17:40 remaining to give Shippensburg a 15-1 lead.
In goal for the Lady Raiders, sophomore
Brooke Miller picked up her fourth career victory, stopping seven shots, including five in the second half. Defensively, Shippensburg forced 28 turnovers while holding a 27-18 edge in ground balls.
Shippensburg returns to action at No. 4-ranked West Chester on Saturday with game time set for 1:00 p.m., at West Chester's South Campus Turf Field. The Golden Rams defeated the Lady Raiders earlier this season, 22-2 at Robb Sports Complex on March 29.
