INDIANA, Pa. - With a game-winning solo home run in the sixth inning of a 6-5 road victory over IUP on Saturday, Shippensburg baseball senior Justin Garber tied the Shippensburg school record for hits in a career held by Chad Stecker '05 with 254. The hit helped the Red Raiders split a crucial doubleheader with the Crimson Hawks that left both teams tied for second place in the PSAC Western Division.

California (Pa.) leapfrogged its way into first place with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday as the Vulcans hold a 9-3 conference record after sweeping a doubleheader at Clarion on Saturday by scores of 13-7 and 6-2.

However, Slippery Rock travels to Lock Haven on Sunday and with two victories, can move into a tie for second place with Shippensburg and Indiana (Pa.).

Shippensburg (26-17, 8-4 PSAC West) dropped the opener 10-3, yet Garber came within one hit of tying the record after finishing the first game 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs. The performance was Garber's 25th multi-hit game of the season and he leads the PSAC with 71 hits for the season through 43 games. He has totaled 104 bases and 30 RBIs this season.

The Red Raiders cemented the victory in game two with a solid relief performance from junior Tyler Redick, who earned his second victory of the season by throwing 2.1 shutout innings of relief and striking out two.

IUP threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning with a one-out double from Kyle Stryker, but pinch-runner Travis Bobik was thrown out by junior catcher Sean Killian trying to steal third base, and Redick struck out Shawn Schwarz to end the game.

Junior Kasey Kuhns was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs in game two, while Redick was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs at the plate.

Senior Brandon Geib took the loss in game one while junior Jason Kelly earned a no-decision in game two.

Shippensburg will travel to West Chester on Tuesday for a PSAC crossover doubleheader with the Golden Rams. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
