Game 1
Game 2

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -
Shippensburg University baseball junior Tyler Redick drove in the game-winning run in the top of the 13th inning of game two while picking up the victory on the mound to give the Red Raiders a doubleheader sweep over Slippery Rock at Jack Critchfield Park Sunday, 3-0 and 4-2.

The doubleheader sweep came less than 24 hours after Shippensburg (18-13, 2-2 PSAC West) dropped both games of a doubleheader to The Rock at home, snapping its four-game win streak.

As a result of the four-game split, both teams find themselves in a tie for third-place in the PSAC Western Division, one-game behind IUP and two-time defending division champion California (Pa.) who are both currently 3-1.

The Red Raiders have now won six of their last eight and 17 of their last 23 after starting the season 1-7. In addition, Saturday's victories were the sixth-straight for the team at Jack Critchfield Park, the site where the team won the 2007 PSAC championship.

Shippensburg scored two runs in the top of the 13th after both teams scored a run in the 12th to force another inning.

Senior Eric Dezell led of the inning with a double to left before moving over to third on a single by senior Justin Garber and a bunt single by junior Kyle Rhoades. He then scored on Redick's RBI-ground out on a fielder's choice.

Garber later scored an insurance run when sophomore Kevin Scholly reached on error by the right fielder.

The Red Raiders were able to force a 13th inning after Redick managed to get them out of tough spot in which The Rock (12-7, 2-2 PSAC West) tied the game and had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the 12th.

Unphased in just his second appearance of the season, Redick induced two ground ball outs, separated by an intentional walk to leave the bases loaded for Slippery Rock and set the stage for his game-winning RBI in the 13th.

In his only other appearance, Redick faced just one batter and threw just five pitches in recording a strikeout at Tampa on March 13.

In the bottom of the 13th, Redick walked one and allowed a single through the left side before getting Billy Herman to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.

Junior Kyle Rhoades finished the second game 3-for-6 with a run after going 1-for-3 in the opener. During the four-game series, he totaled seven hits and batted .438 after going 7-for-16. Rhoades extended his hitting streak to a career-best nine games which is the second-longest this season behind Garber's 16 to start the season.

Meanwhile, Dezell went 3-for-4 and scored the game-winning run.

On the mound, junior Andrew Burke made his seventh start and lasted eight innings, allowing just five hits and one run before leaving the game with the contest tied at 1-1.

In addition to 13 innings, the second game also featured 25 hits and 33 runners left on base.

In the opener, Shippensburg scored all three of its runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Redick that scored Garber and Dezell. Redick's hit was the last of four consecutive for the Red Raiders after Dezell, Garber and Rhoades all singled to load the bases with one out.

Garber totaled one-third of the Red Raiders' six hits, going 2-for-4 while the team's top three spots in the order, Garber, Rhoades and Redick, had four, combining to go 4-for-10 with two runs and two RBIs.

Junior Tim Freshour totaled his fifth complete game in eight starts this season, including his third in his last three starts while picking up his team-leading sixth win and second shutout of the season. In improving his record to 6-2, he scattered seven hits, struck out three, did not allow a walk and extended his scoreless streak to 12.1 innings.

Over his last three starts, Freshour has surrendered just one run in 21.0 innings while striking out 12. He also given up only 15 hits during that time.

Shippensburg travels to Millersville on Tuesday for a PSAC crossover doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. In eight games against the Eastern Division this season, the Red Raiders are 6-2, including 3-1 on the road.
