MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Junior #Kasey Kuhns# and sophomore Rick Shumway each went 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI to help lead the Shippensburg University baseball team to its second road victory over No. 11-ranked Georgia College & State Sunday at John Kurtz Field.

The victory was the third in the last five games for the Red Raiders (3-7) who banged out a season-high 18 hits, 17 of which were singles. The only extra-base hit for Shippensburg came in the bottom of the second when junior Sean Killian drove in Kuhns for the first run of the game with a double to left field.

Eight of the nine starters for Shippensburg had at least one hit, including senior Justin Garber who extended his season hit streak to 10 games after he went 2-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs. He has hit safely in his last 12 games dating back to the final two games of last season in the NCAA Division II North Atlantic Region Championship.

On the mound, junior Andrew Burke picked up his first win in three starts, allowing just four hits and striking out five in 5.0 innings of work.

Leading 1-0 after three innings, Shippensburg exploded for 10 runs on eight hits in the top of the fourth after loading the bases with no outs. Killian, the fourth batter of the inning, singled to center field to score Shumway and sophomore Kevin Scholly to start the barrage.

After a pop-up to second base by freshman Steve McCardell and a Bobcat pitching change, senior #Eric Dezell# reached on an error to load the bases for the second time.

Garber then reached on a fielder's choice which was compounded by an error by the pitcher which led to two more Red Raider runs as Killian and Kuhns scored.

Still, with only one out and after two GCSU errors, Shippensburg drove home five runs with five consecutive RBI singles from junior #Kyle Rhoades#, junior #Tyler Redick#, Scholly, Shumway and Kuhns.

The Red Raiders' final run of the inning came on an RBI from McCardell who reached on an error by the second baseman. In the fifth, Scholly singled to third base to score Garber, increasing the Shippensburg lead to 12-0.

Burke then retired three of the four batters he faced in the bottom of the fifth before leaving the game as the pitcher of record.

The Bobcats (11-7) totaled five runs on nine hits over the final four innings against four different Red Raider relievers, highlighted by a three-run seventh inning.

Shippensburg returns to action on Friday, March 7 with a doubleheader against Northwood beginning at 8:45 AM at the Lawnwood Complex in Ft. Pierce, FL.
