SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg University baseball juniors Matt Wright and Tim Freshour used strong pitching performances as the Red Raiders opened their 2008 home schedule with back-to-back shutouts in PSAC crossover action against Bloomsburg on Saturday, 13-0 and 1-0.

Shippensburg (11-9) has now won 10 of its last 12 games while posting its fourth win in as many contests against North Atlantic Region opponents.

In game one, Wright won his second-straight start, allowing just one hit while totaling 10 strikeouts over 5.0 innings. It was the eighth double-digit strikeout performance in 26 career starts for Wright including second consecutive.

Wright increased his career total to 228, just eight shy of Evan Englebrook '04 for second on the school's all-time list and 13 short of the school record held by Lee McClintock '05 with 241.

In the second game, Freshour ran his record to 5-1 in six starts this season, surrendering just four hits and stricking out a season-high six while totaling his third complete game.

Offensively in the first game, the Red Raiders scored six runs in the second and three more in the third to take a commanding 9-0 lead after three innings which was more than enough for Wright.

Junior Sean Killian had a three-run double to left center in the second before junior Kyle Rhoades also doubled to left center to score Shippensburg's final two runs.

In the third, Killian singled to center to score junior Kasey Kuhns. Killian later scored when senior Justin Garber singled through the right side.

Killian finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBIs while Rhoades went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Killian and freshman Ashton Taughinbaugh combined to go 3-for-4 with six RBIs and three runs scored in the eighth spot in the order.

Meanwhile, Garber totaled two hits in five at-bats, marking his 14th multi-hit game in 19 appearances this season while sophomore Rick Shumway was 3-for-4 with his first career home run, a solo shot to left in the fourth.

In game two, Shippensburg broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth after sophomore Kevin Scholly led off with a double down the left field line. Kuhns then followed with a single up the middle to score Scholly for the only run of the game.

Kuhns' game-winning RBI came immediately after Freshour was able to work his way out of a tight spot in the top of the fourth.

Bloomsburg's Kevin Ward led off with a single before Rich Letts reached on an error putting runners at first and second with no outs. After a sacrifice buny by Matt Allen moved the Ward and Letts to second and third, Freshour induced a ground out to first which held the runners.

Zach Silver then drew a two out walk to load the bases, but Billy Phillips grounded out shortstop to end the threat.

Scholly finished the game 2-for-3 while Kuhns was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Despite a tough duel with Freshour, Chris Tressler suffered his third loss in four starts this season as he allowed just five hits over 6.0 innings.

Shippensburg travels to Greensburg on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Seton Hill beginning at 1:00 p.m.
