MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Shippensburg University baseball junior Tim Freshour pitched a complete-game and struck out five as the Red Raiders took a 5-1 victory in game two of a doubleheader at No. 11 Georgia College & State Saturday at John Kurtz Field.

The Red Raiders (2-7) have now won two of their last four after surrendering three unanswered runs in a 6-5 loss in game one.

Senior Justin Garber totaled five hits in eight at-bats, including a 3-for-3 performance in game two and now has at least one hit in all nine of the team's games this season. Saturday's second game marked his seventh multi-hit game this season and first with three hits.

Freshour scattered five hits and four walks over seven innings to pick up his second win of the season, improving his record to 2-1. The Bobcats' lone run came on a two-out, solo home run to left by Gator Parker in the bottom of the second that gave GCSU a 1-0 lead.

However, Shippensburg would answer with a run in the third to tie the game at 1-1 on an RBI-single by junior #Kyle Rhoades# that scored Garber from second after he advanced into scoring position on a balk.

Rhoades finished the game 2-for-3 with his first two RBIs of the season after he doubled down the left field line to score Garber on his first extra-base hit of the season in the fifth to increase the Red Raider lead to 4-1.

Between Garber and Rhoades, the first two spots in the Shippensburg lineup combined for five of the team's nine hits in game two. Overall, the Red Raiders had a great day offensively, totaling 10 runs on 25 hits over the two games.

Sophomore Rick Shumway scored what proved to be the game-winning run for Shippensburg in the top of the fourth when he scored a wild pitch by Bobcat pitcher Clete Jessup after Shumway and freshman Kevin Miller executed a double steal to get into scoring position.

After advancing to third on the wild pitch, Miller would score during the same at-bat when junior Sean Killian singled to right center.

In game one, Shippensburg junior Matt Wright overcame a three-run first inning that featured one error and a balk to help the Red Raiders build a 5-3 lead after six innings.

Trailing 3-1, Shippensburg scored two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth on an error and three RBI singles from Garber, Killian and senior Eric Dezell.

The Bobcats (11-6) scored two runs in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5, the last of which came on an RBI-double to left center by Pete Paris.

In the eighth, GCSU put its first two batters on against Red Raider junior Jason Kelly before sacrificing them over into scoring position. Nathan Martin would then sacrifice the winning run in from third with a fly ball to center that scored Richard Pirkle.

Wright finished with his second no decision in three starts this season despite striking out nine and scattering seven hits over 6.2 innings while Kelly allowed just two hits over one-and-a-third.

Shippensburg totaled 16 hits, but left 15 runners on base and committed three errors.

The two teams will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday with one, nine-inning contest beginning at Noon from John Kurtz Field.
