ANDERSON, S.C. - The Shippensburg baseball team won its first game of the young season on Saturday afternoon but split a non-conference doubleheader with the Anderson College Trojans at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

The Red Raiders (1-5) raced out to a 3-0 lead in game one of the doubleheader and maintained that lead through the sixth inning, when the Trojans scored four runs with two outs to complete their rally and earn a 4-3 victory.

Junior Matt Wright totaled 10 strikeouts in the first game, while senior Justin Garber and junior Tyler Redick each delivered two hits.

In the nightcap, Anderson (4-13) committed seven errors that led to 10 unearned runs as the Red Raiders won 14-4. Shippensburg scored four runs in the second and six in the third inning to take a 10-1 lead.

Garber and Redick once again had two hits to total four over the two games, while sophomore Kevin Scholly and freshman Kevin Miller also had two hits a-piece in game two.

Miller laced an RBI-double in the third inning, while freshman Kris Kullman smacked a two-run double in the second inning.

Garber delivered a two-run double in the sixth that was the lone hit of a four-run inning for the Red Raiders.

Junior Tim Freshour earned a complete-game victory and recorded five strikeouts to earn the victory.

Shippensburg will complete the three-game series with the Trojans tomorrow with a single game from Anderson Memorial Stadium that begins at 1 p.m.
