MESA, Ariz. - The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not get its offense moving against its first PSAC opponent of the season, as the Gannon Knights employed stifling defense to defeat the Lady Raiders by a 72-45 margin on Monday night from Skyline High School in competition at the Grand Canyon University Holiday Classic sponsored by Trip Sports.
Shippensburg (6-3) struggled from the field in the crossover contest, shooting just 26 percent. Sophomore forward
Kasey Gardner led the Lady Raiders with 13 points, while junior
Lauren Beckley was held to seven points and five rebounds. Off the bench, junior guard
Sheila Wasser delivered six points and four rebounds.
Gannon (8-1) earned a wire-to-wire victory by shooting 44 percent from the field, grabbing 48 rebounds and dishing out 17 assists. The Knights scored the first 10 points of the game and led by 16 at halftime. Brittany Tabron led all scorers with 18 points, while Julie Kleber and Tabron each grabbed seven rebounds.
Shippensburg will compete in the first of two conference-sanctioned crossovers this weekend from Heiges Field House. The Lady Raiders will host Mercyhurst on Saturday at 1 p.m. before taking on Slippery Rock this Sunday at 1 p.m.
