INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Shippensburg field hockey team has been selected as the No. 3 seed from the South Region in the 2008 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championships. The Lady Raiders will travel to Indiana (Pa.) to take on the No. 2-seeded Crimson Hawks at 7 p.m. this Saturday.
Shippensburg (17-4) will be making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament, all under head coach
Bertie Landes. The Lady Raiders advanced to four consecutive national tournaments from 2003-2006 and also reached the Division III national tournament in 1985.
Tickets for the game will be $5 for adults, $3 for students and $1 for children 12 and under as well as senior citizens. There will be no complimentary admissions.
The Lady Raiders rank third in the nation in scoring and have not been shutout this season. In contrast, Indiana (Pa.) (14-2) leads Division II in defense and has recorded 10 shutouts this season. A group of Lady Raiders led by senior
Kim Davies and junior
Amanda Houser will be seeking to avenge two regular season losses to the Crimson Hawks in 2008.
Shippensburg will be vying for its first NCAA Tournament victory in school history while also seeking to reverse the last NCAA Tournament meeting between the two teams. On Nov. 11, 2006, IUP traveled to Robb Sports Complex and defeated the Lady Raiders, 2-1.
In the North Region, Southern Connecticut State will travel to Massachusetts-Lowell to take on the River Hawks this Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner of that matchup will join top-seed Bentley in the national semifinals.
Bloomsburg University will host the national semifinals on Friday, November 14, at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. along with the national championship game on Sunday, November 16, at 1 p.m. All games will be played at Sports Stadium.
