WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Shippensburg women's soccer team held an early 1-0 lead over the No. 9 Golden Rams of West Chester and were within one goal in the second half but could not record another upset, dropping a 3-2 decision in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

Shippensburg (11-8-1, 4-7-1 PSAC East) concluded the regular season with its most successful season in 11 years. For third-year head coach Rob Fulton, the 2008 season provided the most wins for the Lady Raiders during his tenure and the most for Shippensburg since the team finished 13-6 in 1997 under Guy Furfaro.

Sophomore Amanda Greenawalt gave the Lady Raiders an early 1-0 lead with a goal just 89 seconds into the game off a corner kick. Greenawalt finished the season with seven goals in 20 games and has now totaled 13 goals in two seasons with the Lady Raiders.

West Chester (12-1-5, 8-0-4 PSAC East) took a lead into halftime by victimizing Shippensburg with another goal in the final two minutes of a half. Sarah Oswald connected for a goal with 80 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Golden Rams a 2-1 halftime lead.

Trailing 3-1, freshman back Cassie Armold connected for her first collegiate goal with a strike off a corner kick that brought Shippensburg within one goal with 26 minutes remaining. Armold was one of just five players on the team to start in all 20 games this season and the only freshman to achieve the feat.

Senior Beth Long concluded her historic career with four more saves. Long finishes her tenure as the Lady Raider goalkeeper with 107 saves this season and 375 through three full seasons for Shippensburg. She finished just 13 saves short of the school record held by Meredith Yakscoe-Markle '05 from 2002-2005.

Midfielder Kellye Von Stetten finished her Lady Raider career having played in 76 games since the 2005 season. The team's most experienced player, she was one of the team's captains in 2008 and has been a consistent and versatile player for Shippensburg. In her career, she scored five goals and 11 points while starting in 55 of the team's 59 games since 2006.

The Lady Raiders were unable to make the playoffs this season, finishing with a 3-6 record in road contests for the second consecutive year. With the exception of a 3-0 road loss at Gannon on September 20, however, all of the Lady Raider losses have come by just one goal.
