Red Raider Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision In Its Regular Season Finale to West Chester

The Shippensburg men's soccer team concluded its regular season with a 3-0 loss at PSAC Eastern Division opponent West Chester on Saturday afternoon. Red-shirt senior goalkeeper Brad Patke made one save to finish the season with 108, ranking him atop the conference in the category this season.

Shippensburg (1-14-3, 0-8-2 PSAC East) faced 25 shots in the contest, including 16 in the second half. Freshman Kyle King relieved Patke in the second half, making eight saves while appearing in his second career collegiate match.

Saturday's game was the final collegiate contest for the Shippensburg senior class of Patke, Austin Alfonsi, Brad Anderson and Mark Thompson. The quartet has been a part of 20 victories since 2005 and combined for 231 appearances with the Red Raider soccer team.

Patke finished his career with 188 saves and 5.5 shutouts while appearing in 34 games for the Red Raiders. He started all 18 games this season and has recorded at least one shutout in each full season since coming to Shippensburg in 2005. Patke also scored a goal in his only game as a field player in the 2005 season.

Alfonsi totaled 12 goals and nine assists for 33 career points. His best season came as a junior in 2007, when he scored four goals and totaled four assists. This season, Alfonsi had two goals and an assist while starting in all 18 games for the Red Raiders. For his career, Austin has appeared in 74 games and made 10 starts.

Anderson finished his Red Raider career with 11 goals and four assists, totaling 32 points. As a junior, Anderson scored a career-high six goals and recorded two assists, earning a PSAC Player of the Week award last October. This season, Anderson scored two goals and two assists while appearing in 15 games. For his career, he appeared in 55 games and made 21 starts.

Thompson was an integral midfielder in all four of his seasons at Shippensburg, making 52 starts for the Red Raiders and 68 total appearances. He suffered a season-ending injury three weeks ago but totaled three goals and two assists in his career, including a game-winner in the 2006 season. Until his injury this season, Thompson had only missed one game since the start of last season.
