Lady Raider Soccer Cannot Hold Off Golden Bears In 3-2 Road Loss at Kutztown

Jeffrey and Kuntzmann score goals for the Lady Raiders

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Shippensburg women's soccer team received goals from juniors Rachael Jeffrey and Gayle Kuntzmann on Tuesday afternoon at Keystone Field but could not overcome a late goal from the Golden Bears, dropping a 3-2 road decision at Kutztown that dropped the Lady Raiders to 3-4 in the PSAC East.

Shippensburg (9-5, 3-4 PSAC East) and Kutztown (8-3-1, 4-2-1 PSAC East) entered the game ranked in a tie for third place in the Atlantic Region rankings and combined for a highly competitive matchup between two solid teams.

Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, Jeffrey connected for her second goal of the season with just 18 seconds remaining in the half by heading in a corner that was sent into the box by junior Lauren Estrain.

Just 21 seconds after falling behind 2-1, Kuntzmann tied the score at 2-2 in the 50th minute by finishing a cross from sophomore Amanda Greenawalt for her ninth goal of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Beth Long made three saves in the contest to bring her season total to 63 through 14 games.

Shippensburg will look to climb back to .500 in the PSAC Eastern Division on Saturday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Warriors.
