SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg men's and women's basketball games scheduled for Wednesday evening against California (Pa.) have been postponed because of the inclement weather across the state of Pennsylvania. The games have been rescheduled at the same times for Monday, February 19.
On Monday, the Lady Raiders will host the Vulcans at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8:00 p.m. Not only will Monday serve as the regular season home finale for both teams, but the athletic department will also be recognizing National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).
All women in attendance will receive a free ticket to the game and a free popcorn and soda, compliments of the President's Office. In addition to Senior Night and NGWSD activities, both games will have PSAC Western Division playoff implications.
On the women's side, California (Pa.) currently stands in second-place in the division with the Lady Raiders just a half-game back and looking for the second seed which would give them a home game in the first round of the PSAC Women's Basketball Championship on Tuesday, February 27.
On the men's side, California (Pa.) is top-ranked team in the Western Division while Shippensburg is currently only a half-game behind the Vulcans in second place. The top-seed from the Western Division earns the right to host the PSAC Men's Basketball Championship semifinals and final Friday and Saturday, March 2-3.
Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday at Slippery Rock with the women's game at 1:00 p.m., followed by the men at 3:00 p.m. Both games can be heard live on Shippensburg University student radio station WSYC 88.7 FM in Shippensburg and on the internet at raiders.ship.edu.
Meanwhile, California (Pa.) travels to Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday in what will be a crucial women's contest as the Crimson Hawks are currently in first-place in the division with a 7-1 conference record. A Vulcan loss and Lady Raider win would move Shippensburg into sole possession of second-place by a half-game heading into Monday's rescheduled showdown.
As for the men, wins by the Red Raiders and Vulcans, combined with an Edinboro loss at home versus Lock Haven would move Shippensburg into sole possession of second-place in the Western Division, still a half-game behind California (Pa.) heading into Monday's rescheduled showdown.
