WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Shippensburg senior center Shanna Oaddams (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) scored a game-high 20 points as the Lady Raiders snapped a five-game losing streak to West Chester and won at Hollinger Field House for the first time since 1999 with a 78-59 victory on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Shippensburg (8-5) is now 41-18 against the PSAC Eastern Division under eighth-year head coach Kristy Trn, including 4-1 this season. Prior to this afternoon, the last win for Shippensburg against West Chester (3-6) was on Jan. 14, 2001 by a score of 88-73 at home while the last road win in the series for the Lady Raiders came back on Dec. 4, 1999 when they
won 66-51.
Shippensburg trailed 19-15 with 7:22 remaining in the first half before a 9-0 run gave the Lady Raiders a 24-19 lead, a margin they would not relinquish the remainder of the game.
Leading by five with 2:44 to play before halftime, Shippensburg expanded that lead to 12 at the break, 37-25, after scoring 10 of the final 12 points in the half.
The Lady Raiders, who entered the game ranked atop the PSAC in scoring offense, field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage, led by as many as 28 in the second half and outscored the Golden Rams 41-25.
After being outrebounded 20-14 in the first half, Shippensburg pulled down 27 in the second half compared to 18 for West Chester. The Lady Raiders, who entered the game ranked third in the conference in rebounding margin (+4.5), finished the game with a plus-3 advantage (41-38).
In addition to 20 points and five rebounds from Oaddams, freshman forward Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) the reigning PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Week for the fourth time, added 17 points, 11 of which came in the second half.
Red-shirt freshman forward Jenny Cunningham (McVeytown/Lewistown) finished with 12 rebounds and a game-high seven rebounds, one shy of her career-high, while junior guard Megan Fogle (Wrightsville/Eastern York) had 11 points.
Freshman guard Michelle Metz (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) also added seven rebounds to set a new career-high and freshman center Erin Cooper (Pittsburgh/Fox Chapel) totaled a new career-high with three points.
On Sunday, Shippensburg will travel to Millersville for a 1:00 p.m., tip-off with the Marauders at Pucillo Gymnasium, a place where the Lady Raiders have not won since an 88-62 victory on Nov. 25, 1995, a span of five games. The Marauders handed Lock Haven a 66-37 defeat on Saturday at home.
